Founded in 1956, the School of Mechanical Engineering is one of the most distinctive and advantageous colleges in Dalian Jiaotong University. The college has a first-level discipline of ' mechanical engineering ', has the right to grant doctoral and master 's degrees, and has a post-doctoral research flow station. The first-level discipline of ' mechanical engineering ' is a key discipline in Liaoning Province.In 2017, it was selected as a key construction discipline of first-class disciplines in colleges and universities in Liaoning Province. 

The college consists of mechanical manufacturing department, mechanical design department, mechanical electronics department, industrial engineering department, mechanical basic teaching and research center and mechanical engineering experimental teaching center. The Institute closely combines theoretical research with applied research, and condenses the modern electromechanical hydraulic transmission theory and technology, high-end vacuum instrument design theory and manufacturing technology, high-performance precision manufacturing theory and technology, intelligent manufacturing equipment system and intelligent process technology, rail transit equipment health monitoring theory and technology, etc. It has distinct rail transit characteristic research directions.
